Author Larry Wood chronicles the lives of over fifteen Confederate guerrilla or “Bushwhacker” leaders in the state of Missouri during the Civil War. These guerrilla chiefs were not necessarily associated or allied with their more famous counterpart William Clark Quantrill. Though less well-known today, these men with names like Marchbanks, Hildebrand, and Holtzclaw were no less significant and notorious in their day. Many of the stories focus on events which took place along the Missouri/Kansas border and in Southwest Missouri.
