Vernon County native and author Lyndon Irwin’s most recent publication covers the early history of the city of Nevada, MO from 1870-1910. Information is drawn from primary sources, and mostly newspaper accounts of the time. This was a period of rapid growth in Nevada following the town’s destruction during the Civil War. During the 1880’s and 90’s, Nevada grew steadily with citizens hoping to have their town crowned as the “Gem City of the Southwest” (Missouri). The book is fully indexed and footnoted.
